Originally by: Lygos The only problem I have is that there are so many generalist skills. I dislike the idea of having a really high sp character. I scarcely desire to work harder to afford the raised cost of clone death above and beyond the value of a ship I would normally fly, yet the costs of not doing so are even higher.
If there were more specialized combat trees, training up more than one character would be more feasable. Right now there are so many generalist skills, that you would have to have a 15M sp alt just to have every elementary skill for piloting a single ethnicity tech1 frigate maxed.
Generalist skills are just global timesinks usually. On the other side of the coin, non-globalist skills hamper the flexibility of mains for better or worse. The destroyers skill gives "mains" alot of flexibility, but a different generalist skill like sharpshooter is a pure time sink to new player's or separate character's competitiveness.
As a result, having an NPCing/manufacturing main and a moderately well trained, but highly specialized pvp second is not really viable. Ergo, many people simply rely on a very minimalist kestrel alt with probably less than a few hundred thousand sp.
Maybe it would be a lot more fun to have three very specialized characters. Maybe everyone having a market character would be bad for the game.. but I don't see how the tech1 market can really be damaged further. All in all, I haven't really bothered to give the problem very much thought as it's largely a moot point. I hope EVE2 nixes this quandary from the start.
That is how it is suppose to be. You should be maxxed out in a bunch of general skills to be able to max out on something. (Oh noes! Here comes a real life generalization.) Look at yourself, your not just specialized in one area are you? Probably not.
The suggestions for using alts are absurd. Scout? How about you use your main? Oh. my bad. Your too scared to. Market Check? How about you actually fly your MAIN over the next region. Oh, yeah. That is really a hard thing to do. CCP, should have removed ALTS along time ago and they still can. Give the people who have current alts the chance to transfer them over to new accounts for a reduced price. Once, that period is complete REMOVE the other two slots totally. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2002-2/12962/claudesig9xe.jpg
